Laura Linney, best known for portraying strong, but fragile characters, is one of the most acclaimed American actors of our times. Her father was a celebrated playwright, but she was raised as an all-only child by a single mom and nurse. In the summer and with her father Linney was able to develop a passion for theatre. Linney eventually pursued acting first through Brown University then at Juilliard School. Beginning her career at the Broadway following her graduation, she made her debut in film within two years, and then on television in the year after. Since then she has been appearing in a variety of films, TV productions and stage shows. She has been awarded numerous prizes throughout her career. These include 4 Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, three Academy Award Nominations, and five Tony Award Nominations. Her nominations include five Tony Awards and three Oscar Awards nominations. But, in spite of her distinctions and awards, theatre is still her passion and she will continue to play on stage and screen.
